Painting Process

Students were given the opportunity to experiment and explore using a variety of painting techniques. The resulting explosion of splattered paint and soggy paper was part of the “fun”. The time and space required for such an experience cannot be understated. There is an energy coupled with an urgency to work through a painting. This feeling is perhaps owing to the time-sensitive nature of the medium or the invested effort of setting up the workstation. By the end of our studio session, there are always more pleasant surprises than throwaway pieces. Both endpoints are crucial to the learning journey and a relevant part of developing a painting process.

Made with mixed media.
